We’ve all been there…trying to fit into someone else’s mold to meet their expectations so they will like or accept you. I’ve done it and it just ends up with me being miserable for compromising my own beliefs or values. Have you ever felt this and kicked yourself for it? Yep…thought so!
News flash…the people who truly love and appreciate you and cherish your relationship won’t expect you to fit their mold…they will want you to be your true and authentic self and all that comes with it. Unconditional love and acceptance overlooks the parts which someone may not particularly like.
That’s normal and healthy and big picture thinking. Small annoyances should not be “deal breakers”. We should focus on the things we love about a person and not the things which don’t mirror our own expectations.
I continually strive to stand with my conviction of presenting the “true me” in any situation. That is operating within integrity. But sometimes I’ve overlooked remarks or actions just to get along and not rock the boat and that goes against the grain of my inner being.
Unfortunately, doing this long-term inevitably creates friction and frustration because sooner or later when you finally stand up for yourself, you can be accused of causing problems.
Interesting they only accepted you when you acted within their expectations and your new authentic self is met with resistance. They look at you like you’re an alien when it’s simply only the real you finally showing up.
So, I’ve learned my lesson to try and never compromise myself. I can only be me…take it or leave it! And someone way wiser than me once stated “it’s none of your business what others think of you”.
You can’t please everyone or control others’ perceptions of you, so just be fearless in presenting your authentic self each and every time in the most kind, loving and respectful way. And it works both ways! You should let others be themselves too without judgement.
You’ll be way happier if you operate within those mantras and this leads to more inner peace and happiness!
