Lately, I have been asking myself an important question: How is my spiritual wellness?
It’s easy for me to check on the visible parts of my life. I can look at my schedule, finances, work, relationships, or physical health and quickly identify what needs attention. Spiritual wellness is less visible, but it influences how I experience every other part of my life.
For me, spiritual wellness means having a sense of purpose, inner peace, connection, and alignment with my values. Faith and belief in God and Jesus Christ is at the core. Spiritual wellness can also be nurtured through reflection, meditation, prayer, nature, gratitude, service, creativity, and meaningful relationships.
At its heart, my spiritual wellness reflects the relationship I have with myself, with others, and with something greater than myself. It asks whether I am simply moving through life or living with intention.
How I Check In With My Spiritual Wellness
When I want to understand the condition of my spiritual life, I pause and ask myself:
- Am I living according to my values, or am I compromising them for comfort, approval, or convenience?
- Do I feel connected to myself, other people, nature, my faith, or a larger purpose?
- Am I making room for stillness, or am I constantly filling my time with activity and distraction?
- Do my choices support peace and growth, or do they repeatedly leave me feeling depleted?
- Am I practicing compassion and forgiveness, including toward myself?
- What gives my life meaning, and am I giving enough attention to it?
These questions help me look beneath my daily habits and examine the beliefs, emotions, and intentions guiding them. Spiritual wellness includes exploring my identity and purpose, clarifying my values, and choosing actions which align with those values.
Elevating My Mindset
To me, elevating my mindset means becoming more conscious of how I interpret and respond to life. It does not mean pretending everything is positive or denying fear, grief, anger, and disappointment. It means acknowledging what I feel without allowing every passing thought or emotion to control my choices.
Raising My Vibration
I use raising my vibration as a personal metaphor for cultivating a healthier, more loving, peaceful, and energized inner state. I do not see it as a demand to feel happy all the time. It is a way of describing the shift from emotional heaviness and disconnection toward greater presence, gratitude, compassion, and hope.
I raise my vibration when I intentionally choose practices which support my well-being, such as:
- Practicing gratitude by naming specific things I appreciate instead of taking them for granted.
- Spending time in nature and paying attention to what I see, hear, and feel.
- Meditating or praying to quiet external noise and reconnect with my inner life.
- Moving my body through walking, stretching, dancing, or exercise.
- Listening to uplifting music that helps change the atmosphere within and around me.
- Helping someone else without expecting recognition or repayment.
- Protecting my energy by setting boundaries with habits, conversations, and environments that repeatedly drain me.
- Creating something through teaching fitness classes, gardening, or another meaningful activity.
These practices do not erase life’s difficulties. They help me meet those difficulties from a more grounded place.
Uplifting Myself to the Next Dimension
When I talk about moving to the next level or dimension, I am talking about expanding my awareness and growing into a more intentional version of myself. I am not trying to escape reality. I am learning to experience reality with greater wisdom, compassion, courage, and clarity.
For example, forgiveness may represent a new dimension of spiritual growth for me. Forgiveness does not require me to excuse harmful behavior, abandon boundaries, or restore every relationship. It can mean releasing my commitment to carrying bitterness and choosing not to let an old injury govern my future.
Likewise, setting a boundary can be a spiritual practice. Saying no to what repeatedly diminishes me may create space to say yes to what supports my values, purpose, and peace.
My Personal Spiritual-Wellness Goals
My goal is not spiritual perfection. My goal is spiritual alignment. I want my inner beliefs and outward actions to reflect one another more consistently. I am creating a simple spiritual routine that feels sustainable rather than performative. Each day I evaluate what worked and what didn’t and then pivot. It’s a work in progress. This routine helps me approach spiritual growth as a daily practice, not an occasional response to crisis.
How Is Your Spiritual Wellness?
Spiritual wellness is deeply personal. For one person, it may be rooted in worship and religious community. For another, it may grow through meditation, service, creativity, nature, or the search for meaning. What matters is whether our practices help us live with greater integrity, connection, compassion, and purpose.
Today, I am choosing to care for my spirit as intentionally as I care for my other needs. I am elevating my mindset by becoming conscious of my thoughts and responses. I am raising my vibration by choosing practices which cultivate gratitude, peace, and connection. I am moving toward my next dimension by releasing what no longer serves me and acting in closer alignment with who I am becoming.
The beauty of focusing on my spiritual wellness is that it keeps me in a mode of continual growth and progress…living my life in a state of vitality, curiosity, and with fresh outlooks!
So, I return to the question that began this reflection:
How is my spiritual wellness – and what am I doing today to nurture it? It’s a daily commitment, and I’m worth focusing on a most beautiful life!
